No need for a long, drawn out explanation on the power of social media and the possibilities of what it can do for the growth of any business. Saturated? Very much so. Necessary? Very much so. If you are in the business of expanding and making money, learning how to effectively maximize your business in as many ways as possible is important.

Social media is constantly evolving. New networks are consuming our worlds each and every day, which means there is always a new opportunity to position who you are and what you have to offer in the front of hundreds if not thousands of ideal clients and customers. As business owners and entrepreneurs, we are always on the hunt to find ways to level up without a large overhead or startup cost. Social media is the answer. Most social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are completely free to use. I strongly encourage you to use them smartly and with a strategy. Always make sure that you are “posting with a purpose.”

Leveraging my social platforms over the last 10 years has definitely worked to my advantage, both personally and professionally. I’ve been able to secure internships and jobs with large television networks & top influencers in the fashion and entertainment industries. In addition, invited to blog for and accompany Co-Founder of Market America/SHOP.com, Loren Ridinger to their annual convention, you name it. All of these opportunities plus a ton more were the direct result of effectively positioning myself on social media.

I think it’s safe to say I’ve learned a thing or two about maximizing your business on these platforms so here’s a quick 3-step plan to doing the same:

1. Use social media to build RELATIONSHIPS, not a following.

You can’t build a house without a foundation. Relationships are your foundation on social media and in business! Without it, you won’t sell anything to anyone. Period. Make your focus on organic connections and not numbers and you will go very far! When people get to know you as a person, they are more likely to buy and invest in your business (it’s the know, like & trust factor). This is why building a personal brand is beneficial.

2. Automate! Automate! Automate!

This is simply the case of working smarter and not harder. You can’t be everywhere at once unless you automate your social media posts. When you automate, you can spend more time focusing on creating the best and most effective products and services. Automation is KING in business so if you want to maximize your time, get in the habit of putting your weekly posts in autopilot.

3. There’s power in the hashtag.

Just in case you need a refresher’s course in the hashtag, here you go: A hashtag is widely used on social media. It’s a word or phrase that is preceded by a pound sign like this-→ #. Hashtags are used to identify and make specific topics searchable. An example of a popular hashtag is #TBT or #ThrowbackThursday. The secret to maximizing hashtags is to use them to find your customers and clients. How to do this? See who is talking about what and have a CASUAL conversation aka leave the sales pitch in your pocket! These conversations can convert into SALES!
