Empowering and Inspiring One Life at A Time

A multiple best-selling author, publisher, speaker, and “Empowerologist,” affectionately known as “Dr. Adair,” is a leading authority on motivating, inspiring, and empowering individuals to move toward positive change, become resilient, and to bounce back after hitting rock bottom. Dr. Adair specializes in helping women and teens build their confidence levels to become equipped and empowered to pursue their passion and persevere in their purpose.

Four years ago, Dr. Adair decided to leave her six-figure income job as a Professional Counselor after 26 years so she could “follow her next dream.” She then created The Empowerment House where she coaches women, teens and parents through life changes. She teaches them how to operate and thrive in spite of their circumstances and shares techniques that empowers them to “push through the pain”. As the creator of The Resiliency Formula she imparts strategies that focus on overcoming odds, controlling anger, creating healthy balances, forgiving techniques, building dreams and reaching destiny points. What’s Going On sat down with Dr. Adair to discuss her secret to success and how she can help you achieve your dreams!

After 26 years as a professional counselor, how did you build up enough courage to follow your next dream?

What helped me was having a plan. I wrote my very first book that summer and the feedback I received propelled me that this is the direction where I really wanted to go. My interest as a school counselor started to diminish so I created a plan of action to take the right steps for me.

What is your next step with the Empowerment House?

My next project is on teen dating violence. My partner and I created a Teen Dating Violence curriculum which targets high school and college students; talking about abuse which can be verbal or physical. I plan to work with a lot of teens through youth programs and speaking engagements making them aware of the issue and teaching them about creating healthy relationships and so much more.

The Johnson Tribe Publishing House was the first business you created and then it was the Empowerment House. How was transition from one business to another?

I found the transition to be very smooth. I realized the messages in my books could transform into programs that could help many teens. It was in my heart to tell my story and with countless great feedback from by book and presentations I knew I needed to create a program that can inspire many more women and teenagers.

Did you find it difficult running and branding both businesses at the same time while also being involved with many other things such as speaking engagements?

Of course, there can be times when it seems hard to run a business, especially two, simultaneously at that; but I am not one to give up. I keep going because I know this is my purpose and you should never stop living out your purpose.

You’ve self- published and written 9 books in total thus far. What are some of your best memories from publishing your very first book to your last? How was that journey? What have you learned?

Honestly, I didn’t know what I was doing. Now, I know the ins and outs. I’ve done a whole a lot of things right when I published my first book and I also  did a whole lot of things wrong but at the end of the day it didn’t matter because I had a published book so that’s the key. It’s much easier now because I know the process, and like with anything the more you do it the better you get with time.

Dr. Adair you have a plethora of titles and accomplishments under your belt. What is your secret to success?

I am not someone you give up.  Most people don’t achieve their goals because they are afraid to. I achieved all my goals because my FAITH was much bigger than my FEAR! It’s ok to be afraid but you should never let that stop you from living out your purpose in life.

This is why I love what I do because I get to inspire people to just start which is always the hardest part to anything.  Faith + Action = Results

Paving the Way for Women of Color in Corporate America

What’s Going On had the opportunity to speak with Jasmin Forts, creator of career consulting business Jobbing With Jas. Jasmin recognized early on that there were limited resources and mentorship opportunities for young women of color in the corporate workplace. She saw the need to “make a seat at the table” for exceptional women that needed that extra bit of guidance to reach their full potential.

Jalesa Ann Talks Breaking the Cycle of Financial Stress

It’s no secret, one of my favorite topics to write about is finance. You would think working at a bank my budgeting skills would be great, but it’s been one of my biggest challenges. For the past few months I’ve been able to learn and practice the importance of saving. In fact, I was able to reach my goal for my ultimate vacation 4 months earlier than my projected time of 8 months. Though this was a huge accomplishment for myself, much credit goes to the individual who inspired me to take control of my finances, the “Queen of Finance” and money mogul, Jalesa Ann.

Online social spaces have allowed me to access a world beyond the rural area of South Carolina that I once called home. I was able to create new and innovative concepts for my area and collaborate with like-minded and diverse individuals. However, it was social spaces like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter that allowed me to see the broader scope of ideas and niche concepts that brands and businesses were creating miles away. My friends would define my personality as being obsessive.
